PGPD Investigating Armed Carjacking That Led to Officer-Involved Shooting

Updated: The two involved PGPD officers are Police Officer Christopher Malinowski and Police Officer Anthony Sciaretta. Both officers are assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. Police Officer Malinowski joined the department in 2013. Police Officer Sciaretta is a six-year veteran.  Both officers are on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating an armed carjacking in Fort Washington that led to a pursuit and officer-involved shooting in the District.

Prince George’s County Police were called to a home in the 200 block of River Bend Road in Fort Washington yesterday evening at 7:15 pm for the report of an armed carjacking. The preliminary investigation reveals a suspect approached a victim and demanded money. When the victim couldn’t comply with the demand, the suspect struck the victim with a gun. The suspect then stole the victim’s car and sped off.  PGPD officers then began an authorized pursuit of the carjacked vehicle. That pursuit ended in the District of Columbia where two PGPD officers discharged their service weapons. Two Forest Heights Police Officers were also at the scene. Any questions about their involvement should be directed to that department.  All questions about the shooting in the District should be directed to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigation Response Team launched a routine, internal investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
