Suspect Also Charged With Attempting to Sexually Assault a Young Girl

Richard Butler III
The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively searching for a man who repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend in Upper Marlboro this week. He’s 34-year-old Richard Butler III of the 3200 block of 75th Avenue in Landover. The victim was seriously hurt, but is expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation reveals that on March 7th at about 11:00 am, the suspect confronted the victim outside of a home in the 10000 block of Tyrone Drive in Upper Marlboro. Butler repeatedly stabbed the girlfriend before fleeing.

Butler is also wanted for attempting to sexually assault a young girl he knew at a Hyattsville apartment last Friday. Later that day, he’s accused of throwing an incendiary device through a window of the same apartment, sparking a fire. No one was hurt.

Butler is charged with attempted first degree murder, second degree sex offense, arson and several additional charges.
