Detectives Charge Suspect in City of New Carrollton Homicide

Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city of New Carrollton. The victim is 34-year-old Elder Cruz Perez of Carrollton Court. The suspect is 19-year-old Jose Hernandez-Cardenas of the 6400 block of Carrollton Court in New Carrollton. The victim rented out a portion of his home to the suspect.

On January 1st, at approximately 3:30 am, New Carrollton police officers responded to the 6400 block of Carrollton Court for the report of a stabbing. When they arrived, the officers discovered the victim inside of his home suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers arrested the suspect on the scene. 

The preliminarily investigation reveals the suspect stabbed the victim during an argument.

Hernandez-Cardenas is charged with first and second degree murder. He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
