Death Investigation in Lanham Now a Homicide; Teenage Suspect in Custody

Homicide Unit detectives charged a teenager in connection with a fatal stabbing inside of a home in Lanham on Thursday. The victim is 53-year-old Herman Jackson of Woodstream Terrace in Lanham. The suspect is 16-year-old Taahir Butler. The victim was in a relationship with the suspect's mother. They all lived in the same house. 

On May 10th, at approximately 4:00 am, patrol officers responded to a home in the 7000 block of Woodstream Terrace. They discovered the victim suffering from stab wounds. He died a short time later at a hospital.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim and suspect became involved in a dispute. During that altercation, the suspect shot the victim several times with a BB gun and then stabbed him.

Butler was in the home when officers arrived. He has confessed to stabbing the victim. He is charged as an adult with first and second degree murder. He's in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
